Pennsylvania National Horse Show

Hey y'all! I went to Harrisburg to watch USEF Medal Finals. It was so cool to see in person and I can't wait until I get to do that!

After seeing it, I realize how challenging, mentally and physically it is for both horse and rider. There is so much prep that goes into not only doing well at finals, but doing well enough all year to make it there. I've seen the journey personally with people from my barns, but it's just very eye opening to actually see the finals in person. I want to congratulate everyone who showed at Harrisburg!

USEF Medal Finals Results are as follows: (257 Competed)
1. Meg O'Mara
2. Lillie Keenan
3. Sydney Shulman
4. Hasbrouck Donovan
5. Lydia Ulrich
6. Jacob Pope
7. Hannah Von Heidegger
8. Charlotte Jacobs
9. Liza Finsness
10. Elizabeth Benson

A HUGE congratulations to all of these riders!

Summer Shows!

Alrighty, onto the shows!
The shows I went to this summer:

  • Devon
  • Atlanta Summer Classic (Week I and II)
  • Charleston Summer Classic (Week I and II)
  • Kentucky Summer Classic (Week II)
  • US Pony Finals
Okay, so I didn't show at Devon because Jeb and I did the greens last year but I went with my barn (Tennessee) to watch. It was awesome! All of my friends did really well and I hope I get to show there sometime in the next few years!

Atlanta was SO much fun!! Both weeks were great and I got to try a lot of horses! None of them were the ones for me but it was awesome to get to ride them. The $25,000 Pony Derby was the second week and Jeb was awesome! I made a mistake on one fence but other than that we were great! Although we missed the second round cutoff by a few points, it was a great learning experience and I'm really happy I got the chance to participate in it.

Charleston!! It was by far the two weeks of the summer!! Jeb was absolutely amazing! The first week we won the hack, were second in the classic, and third in the model. We also did really well over fences and were reserve champion! That qualifies us for Pony Finals 2013! In addition to that, Jeb and I were Kahuna Pony Champion for the large pony division and also Grand Kahuna Pony Champion over all pony divisions! The Kahuna award is given to the pony and rider with the highest scoring combination of model, hack, and classic scores. The second week we won an over fences and the hack! Our second $25,000 Pony Derby was also the second week. We ended up 9th! Jeb was awesome and I was so happy with how we did.

In Kentucky we were third in the hack out of 27! We also got good prizes in the over fences. Jeb was perfect (as always)!  So, the part we've all been waiting for... Pony Finals!! Jeb was AMAZING! I mean absolutely perfect. He has come so far since last year and I couldn't be more proud. It was an important show for me because it was my last with my trainer. I'll be honest, I didn't ride the best I ever have, but I was so happy with Jeb that it just didn't matter. There were 83 ponies in the division.

Overall, it was a fantastic summer and I couldn't be happier with how Jeb was. It's sad to leave my barn in Tennessee but my new barn has been great and I'm looking forward to a fantastic 2013 season.

What a Summer!

Hello everyone!! SO much has happened since my last post! My summer was so insanely busy, I barely had time to do anything other than ride! Two important things:
1) Summer shows were awesome! (more on those later)
2) I moved to Maryland

We'll start with moving. So I found out I had to move in the middle of June and of course my first worry was where to ride! Luckily I found the a place that has been great! I've learned a lot since I moved (about two months ago).

So far, I have only been to one show since moving, HITS Culpeper in September. Jeb and I got good ribbons in the division and learned a LOT (which is of course the point)!

Today I rode Jeb in a clinic which was very informative and helpful. The clinician was very complimentary and taught me a lot in the time I rode.

More coming later!!

Memphis in May

Before starting this, I forgot to mention on the last post that I am also qualified for the USEF Pony Medal at Pony Finals!

Both weeks were pretty successful, but the second week was awesome! On Saturday, I won everything except for the model and the classic, when I was 4th and 2nd! Jeb was so great!! Although, Sunday my eye was off, so we were 2nd and 4th, but still champion! I was so happy and very proud of Jeb! Our competition was hard: a Pony Finals champion, a Pony Finals reserve champion, and a Pony Finals top ten pony!

We are currently resting 7th in the zone and 33rd in the nation with 7 competitions!

Good luck everyone!

Qualified Pony Finals 2012!

Yes! That's right, I qualified!! A few weeks ago at WTHJA's Springtime in Dixie, Jeb and I were reserve champion, qualifying us for USEF Pony Finals 2012! I couldn't be happier. Jeb has been perfect lately! I can't wait for Kentucky this year! It's gonna be so much fun! See you there!

International Riding Academy

A few weeks after visiting AOA, I visited the International Riding Academy in Hilton Head, South Carolina. It was awesome! The first day my mom, dad, and I met with Hilton Head Prep, the school that works with iRiding students. They were very willing to help with absences for riding and it was a really great school. Afterwards, we went to lunch with som people from iRiding which was fun.
After lunch, all of us headed over to the barn. The facilities are incredible! I got a tour of the property then got ready to ride. I participated in the lessons with the other iRiding girls, who were all very nice and welcoming. Sandra (Sam) McCarthy is the trainer. She is absolutely hilarious and very nice. She taught me a lot in the short time I was there. While I was there, I was able to ride their ponies and horses who were all very talented. They were fun to ride and I really enjoyed being there. All the riders there ride in two lessons a day, one flatwork and another jumping. They ride at least two horses a day. A full time riding program schedule is here.  The academy participates in local horse shows, 'A' and 'AA' shows, along with the IEA shows.
The second day I was there, I went to Hilton Head Prep again to go to some classes with an iRiding student. All the teachers were very nice and helpful and I really enjoyed the school. After that, my parents and I toured the housing. The housing is also very nice and I think it is cool how you get to live with other golf academy students. That afternoon I headed back to the barn and got to ride again, which of course, was the best part! Students can take a horse of their own or lease during the year, but it's required to have your own personal horse.

Overall, I really liked the International Riding Academy, and I think if you are considering boarding school, you should most definitely consider going there.

Andrews Osborne Academy

This spring break, after flying out to Phoenix, I got a great opportunity to go tour Andrews Osborne Academy, an equestrian boarding school in Willoughby, Ohio (close to Cleveland). I got to ride with their trainers and everything!

After my long day of flights from Phoenix through Detroit and finally arriving at the Canton-Akron airport, I was exhausted. After spending the night in my hotel, I woke up and went to visit AOA.

Upon arriving, I got a quick tour of the school, and then headed out to the barn to take a lesson. The facilities were very, very nice. They have two indoor rings connected to the barn. The stalls looked comfy for the horses and I was told they are the same stalls the queen of England has in her barn. There is also an outdoor ring and lots of great pasture space. In my lesson, I rode one of the school's horses and worked on lots of things. I took a lesson with Laura, who was very informative and helpful.  The school does A shows as well as participating in the IEA.

I also got to tour the dorms and also was able to sit in on a few classes, and meet teachers as well as students.  It seems like a great place to be and if you're looking for a school where you can ride, check this out!

What a Month it has Been (Gulfport!)

Hey everyone! I am SO sorry I haven't posted in so long! Things have been absolutely crazy! Since my last post, I've been to Phoenix, Cleveland, Gulfport, and Hilton Head all while balancing school. Speaking of Cleveland and Hilton Head heads up for some posts about those.

This post, however, is regarding Gulport. I don't think there's any better way to end my spring break!
Jeb was great and I got some points contributed to my USEF Medal ( I believe we were third)!

In the larges, we were 2nd, 4th, 5th, 5th, 4th, and 4th! We were also 6th in the classic.

Jeb couldn't have been better!
Look out for some new youtube videos soon, once iMovie starts cooperating I should have a bunch!

3 Years Without You

On February 28, it was officially three years since Gypsy (my old pony) was put to sleep. I miss her so much but I know she's in a better place.

"It's not about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."- Rocky Balboa

"Somewhere behind the rider you've become; the trainers who have pushed you, the people who believed in you, the long hours of schooling, the dirt beneath your nails, the falls you've taken, the ribbons you didn't win, the tears you've cried, and the horses you've given your heart to, is the little girl who fell in love with a horse and never looked back. Ride for her."- Unknown

Rest in Peace.

We had a first round score of 77.5 and a second round score of an 80 (combined 157.5)! I was really happy with it. Also, I think there were 10 or 11 larges!

Year End Awards Banquet and First Show of the 2012 Show Season!

The second week of January, Jeb and I traveled to Lake St. Louis for our first show of the season. Quite frankly, it was not our best. I don't remember the exact placings, but it just really wasn't my best show. It was my fault though, thank you to my wonderful pony who is quite the saint. Anyways, we have two upcoming shows that I'm super excited about! I hope we qualify!

WTHJA Year End Awards! Yay!
Reserve Champion in the Green Pony Hunters!
Third in the Large Pony Hunters!
Fourth in the 12-14 Equitation Over Fences!
Sixth in the 12-14 Equitation on the Flat!

It was a great year!

New Tumblr Name/Updates!

SO sorry for not posting in a while, I've just been really busy with the holidays and riding.
Updates with online stuff:
New Tumblr name: heartlessmemory (go follow if you haven't already, please!) Click this to take you to my tumblr.
I'm getting tired of posting all the links at the bottom of every post, so I'm thinking that I will make one post of all my links, and then just link to that at the end, and update it every time I change/get something new.
Youtube is going great! I'm at 91 subscribers at the moment, and when I get to 100 there will be a special video! Subscribe to my channel for updates!

Riding updates:
I've been riding as much as I can over winter break, but sadly I have to go back to school tomorrow (sometimes I miss the homeschool days). I've been riding around 2-4 horses a day, depending on who else is out to help me, and there's usually more, but my parents say that it is beneficial for me to sleep occasionally. Jeb has been really great lately and we have progressed and matured a lot as far as being more consistent and really just improving as a team. I know that I will show him all year this year, but I am unsure of when my pony days will come to a close (very sad, but I'm still growing). In our last lesson, I had some trouble with distances at the beginning, but after a few minutes I started seeing them and ended up doing 3'3'', which Jeb thought was a breeze. I've really enjoyed working with all the ponies and horses lately, and it is pretty interesting to go from a 16 hand horse to a small pony then back to a horse, but there have been no problems so far.
My next show will most likely be in January. Don't quote me on that though, because I'm not really sure yet.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and a happy new year!
